Welcome to Life Courage
To get started, let’s look at how we casually throw around terms like “courage”, or even “success”, “value” and “worth”. Depending on the messaging we received around these words, we might automatically connect to a unique personal story and automatically generate thoughts like “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get my life together? I’m not brave enough. I’m not good enough. I’m not successful enough.” … and so on. If we simmer too long with these thoughts, we might start to spiral and lose our way. Sometimes it seems like every direction we turn brings us to some version of the message “Be More!”, “Do More!”
These days it might feel like we are bombarded by seemingly inspirational messages to realize our “highest potential”, work toward “the greatest good” and to live our “ultimate purpose”. Self-help lingo and inspirational jargon affects each of us based on how we receive and process information. So if you are left feeling confused by what these messages mean, you’re not alone. In fact, it’s common to be burdened by these undefined and far-reaching expectations and feel disappointed in ourselves when we’re unable to reach such superhuman status. Once we unknowingly commit to unrealistic expectations, we might feel inadequate each time we fail to deliver on some impossible promise.
In reality, we do not all enter the human race at the same starting line, forcing some of us to run harder and faster just to stay in the game. We do the best we can, with the tools and skills we’ve gained, earned or inherited in this life. This is where coaching can help you find ways to develop and improve your portfolio of talents and capabilities, possibly getting you closer to your desired objectives. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help, and things may not even turn out the way you imagined, but if you need support in reaching your goals, it might be worth discovering for yourself what it’s like to work with a life coach.
